RedHN

Overview

RedHN is a browser extension that gives Hacker News a Reddit-style reading interface while keeping readers on the official Hacker News site. It reworks the experience around card-based stories, clearer comment threads, familiar actions, and faster navigation without replacing HN's own links, pages, or account flows.

Why I Built It

Hacker News has great content, but its interface can feel dense during long reading sessions. RedHN keeps the parts that matter and adds a more comfortable browsing layer: readable story cards, visual comment threading, sticky navigation, search, theme controls, and local reading preferences.

Availability

RedHN is available for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. The project is MIT licensed, built with WXT, React, and TypeScript, and stores settings and read state locally in browser extension storage. It does not add analytics, tracking, ads, remote code, or a RedHN-operated backend.
